Day 15: Rest Requires Trust

{This post is part of my 31 Day blog series Work Hard + Rest Well: Learning Obedience in the Rhythms of Work and Rest.} "We are commanded to rest regularly. We’re commanded to rest daily. Because our rest shows our trust in God’s provision and care." Day 14

day15

God commands our rest, but He doesn’t give commands randomly or brutally. He leads us gently. He leads by example. Because on the seventh day He rested. And if the Ruler of the Universe can afford the time to rest, then surely we can as well. Genesis 2:2

God commands our rest, but He also promises His provision. He won’t ask of us something that He will not be willing to carry us through. And if He cares for even the birds, then how much more will He care for those he made in His image. Matthew 6:27-30

God commands our rest, but He commands it in love. He knew that we would fail. He knew that we would try to lead ourselves and that we would try to act as if we were in control. And so He provided another way. A way of healing and restoration. A way for us to obey in His strength. Romans 5:10

Our rest is a command from God but it is a command for our good. And it is a command that requires deep trust in God for us to obey.

We must trust His leadership, His provision, and His strength. Rest requires trust in God.

day15quote

Will we? Will we choose to trust and let that trust be shown through obedience? Will will trust and obey? Will we rest?
