"Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”1 Peter 1:13
Do you know that feeling? The last night at church camp? That one song towards the end of worship night? Those words spoken deep and fervent that awaken passion in your core?
I’ve left those moments enough times to know that the passion will fade and the fire will flame out before long. And I’ve watched it happen, all the while wondering how to keep the flame blazing a little longer...
And through the hours of searching and wondering, I’ve begun notice the answer...and that answer is also the answer to another question...
How and why do some people find the ability and the need and the brain space to read and read and read? How and why do they constantly intake?
And sometime recently it all clicked in my mind.
That passion...it is a fire. And fires need constant stoking, constant piling on of wood. Those people I so admire, the ones who read and listen to and intake truth taught in every way imaginable, they’re stoking the fire of their passion for God.
They’re pouring on fuel fast and furious. They’re loving God and then seeking to know Him and learn about Him in any way they can.
So I read blog after blog and book after book and listen to sermons nearly every day of the week and I find my passion burning a little brighter, a little more sure. Then I step out to apply what God is teaching and to love those around me and to serve in the places He’s put me and the flame flickers stronger.
And I’ve wondered why we need all the words written and why the world needs my words written and I’m learning that if those words point to Jesus then they are desperately needed as fuel for the fires of our souls.
Hear me when I say that no book or blog can substitute for intimate, intentional time in God’s Word and in prayer, but those things can fuel the flame that pushes you and I to spend more time with Jesus.... To love Him more. To desire Him more. To look for Him more. To meditate on Him more.
And the insatiable reading and seeking of truth is a preparation...a preparing of our minds and redirecting of our attentions and refocusing of our hopes.
"Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.” 1 Peter 1:13
So let us prepare our minds for action by first seeking God’s face and then seeking the things that fuel our passion to seek Him more and redirect our hearts toward Him.
Be blessed <3
